I thought I would share a link from my archives from Ron Bigalow Photography that is a Six part explanation of really understanding sharpening. The tutorial/information is written from Photoshop CS2 but its basic concepts and implementations are not limited to a particular Photoshop version

It is rather in depth, and personally had to read it a few times for it to really have it sink in, but it raised my understanding of sharpening to another level. It is the best information I have found about not only how to properly sharpen an image but more importantly understanding it. I know there are many techniques for applying sharpening to an image that many of us already use, but before this I never really understood it.

This article helps not only with knowing how to properly use the Unsharp Mask which many of us may already use but also why sharpening is needed in the first place.

I think we all can benefit from information of having a stronger understanding about the techniques we actually use to make our images the best they possibly can be. If any of you have any questions or would like to discuss the topic further please don't hesitate to let me know.

Feel free to explore Ron's article page for more great info resources for raising your editing skills and photography knowledge to another level.

Hope you all find this useful!! ;)

Thanks for posting Neal !! : ) Finishing up a 13 hour day at work, and back again tomorrow for another 12......but will check out the article. Thanks again : )
