The shot I almost missed
Talk about wild weather, in this shot you have a stunning sunrise (one of the best I've seen at openlands), fog on the horizon and the very start of a mild rain clouds rolling in from the west (behind us). Add humidity to the fog and you have wonderful condensation creating qualities. I took maybe a dozen shots of the sunrise before realizing something wasn't quite right, the images on the LCD looked foggy, at first I attributed it to the fog, then I realized my circular polarizer had fogged up!
I quickly removed it, sprinted back to my camera bag so I could sit it on something clean and sand free, then sprinted back, adjusted exposure and off I went. Luckily for me the clouds were still fiery, but a couple of minutes later, they began to subside. Thats the thing with sunrises, you get up at 3.15am to get there in time and the really really exceptional light only lasts for a few short minutes, so you gotta make sure you're sure of your position before hand.
This time I wasn't alone in my stupidity of getting up at 3.15am, I was accompanied by a good friend and excellent photog Mark.Kinsman and his daughter (maybe a better photog that her dad... shhhhhh, you didn't hear that here! ;-) ).
