commented over 1 year agoNice pic. I've tried to shoot eagles (birds in general) close-up in flight, but find it difficult to maintain focus with my 300mm. Any tips?

commented over 1 year agoThanks Jack! I shoot pretty much all BIF's (birds in flight) with auto focus and stabilizer mode 2 (don't know if you have that on your Nikon or not). I pan with the bird, use single focus point on the head and try to select my ISO for decent DOF and shutter speeds over 800 for large birds and higher for the fast small birds. Usually I'm using ISO 400. For dark birds in flight, I open up 3/4 to 1 stop. Tough to get perfect exposure on adult eagles with their white heads! For perched birds, I manually focus on their eye. This shot and my other eagle shots, they were fairly close, so the auto focus worked well! Hope that helps!
