Ottawa Canyon Icefalls
This photograph was taken at Starved Rock State Park. Many people don't think to visit Starved Rock in the Winter months, but winter offers many stunning scenes, such as this. The smooth flowing waterfall is replaced by giant ice formations.

Duane-Sometimes I do where "Stable-Icers" they are like a cleat that straps on over your boots. They are a lifesaver...Especially at Starved Rock.

commented over 1 year agoThanks Josh. I was wondering about that. Only been on those trails once in 2008 but there are some areas that could be super dangerous in the winter, and I always wondered how some people got those pictures without technical climbing gear!

commented over 1 year agoDuane, those cleats work great as long as the ice is relatively flat. The ones I have are like sheet metal screws that use the head to bite the ice. It's like velcro on your feet on ice. Weird sensation but very effective.
