Common Green Darner

Illinois Beach State Park is an amazing place for dragonflies. This time of year there are thousands of these Common Green Darners patrolling the Lakeshore. If you get up early enough you can catch them perched before they take off to start hunting for the day.

I found this little guy at Illinois beach state park today. He's only about 1/2-3/4" long and was all curled up and very camouflage against the leaf on which he was resting.

This image captures Ottawa Canyon falls frozen after many days of sub-freezing temperatures. This particular year the pool of water at the bottom of the falls froze into a very smooth(Very Slippery), reflective sheet of ice.
