City of God?
Let me preface this by saying that I don't typically describe myself as a religious person. That being said, I was snapping some photos from an observatory point in my office building yesterday, and was struck by how the orange downtown Chicago street lamps created crosses all over the city.
Many people think that cities are dangerous, dirty places full of crime, greed, and corruption. Chicago certainly has its corners where one may think that God simply doesn't exist.
However, I don't believe that God has foresaken cities ... so many souls, so many souls.... God is in cities, too.
...and that is my very surprising religious and/or philosophical observation of the day, which is kind of unusual for me, actually.

A Moment of Clarity
In the summer, the sun is rather harsh in the late afternoons. My office building is typically awash in the blazing hot sun at this hour. This woman happened to be taking refuge in the foliage ... and it just so happened that a beam of sunlight illuminated her. I doubt she even knew.
I really wish I could show her this photo ... but unfortunately, I have no idea who she is. Perhaps I will run into her inside the building one of these days!
Taken at 311 S. Wacker.

Somewhere only we know...
"And if you have a minute why don't we go...
Talk about it somewhere only we know.
This could be the end of everything...
So why don't we go. Somewhere only we know."

North Side
Chicago is not just about skyscrapers... there are so many little residential neighborhoods. Here is the street where I grew up.

Chicago after the storm of 6/23/2010
The sky was absolutely amazing after the storm passed through Downtown Chicago that night. I took this photo using a long exposure of 30 secs... not thinking that the boat was going to move ever so slightly in the water during that time - whoops! I am really pleased by how this turned out anyway. The movement of the clouds is so awesome, and it will always remind me of that powerful storm!
