Ruby Meadowhawk Dragonfly
Perched upon a dried Thistle head.
These small (3/16" long) Robber Flies are comical in their appearance. They will sit motionless on the tips of branches and plant stalks.
A Mantis sizes up a potential meal, however it was not to be as the grasshopper was not perpendicular to the forearms of the Mantis, thus she could not grab her prey. The grasshopper slowly crawled up the stalk and hopped off to safety.
